Mixed reviews on B.C.’s plan to crack down on short-term rentals

In October 2023, the province of B.C. is introducing new legislation to address the housing crisis, including the creation of a database of legal short-term rentals, a short-term rental and compliance department, and increased fines of up to $3,000 per day. However, the major change is that short-term rentals must now be in one's primary residence only. Despite the new legislation, it is not being met with enthusiasm as it is not seen as a total fix and Airbnb has stated it won't alleviate the province's housing concerns.
